Thezan les Beziers:

Set in the beautiful and historic region of Herault department 34, Thezan les Beziers is a small village about 10km from the outskirts of Beziers surrounded by vineyards, ideally placed for visitors to the region with magnificant sandy beaches 20 minutes drive to the South but with mountains and stunning scenery to the North. It is only 10 minutes from the A9 motorway which offers excellent communication links from the UK.

The house is situated in the village within an easy walk of the village square (important for getting those still warm bread and croissants for breakfast each morning!). The square contains a good range of shops including butcher, traditional baker (also a chocolatier), chemist, general store and a post office. On two mornings per week there is a market in the square offering a range of produce and goods. There is a small restaurant, a bar and a pizza/tapas bar in the village and on the very edge of the village is a supermarket with a petrol station (10mins walk or 2mins drive).

The villagers are welcoming to strangers and although most do not speak any English, are always kind and helpful.

Markets with local produce Beziers: The nearest large town is Beziers, approximately 10 km to the South. Steeped in medieval history with a magnificent Cathedral at its centre, Beziers has superb restaurants (many clustered around tree lined squares), an opera house and art galleries. Traditional markets supply a wide range of local produce including freshly caught fish and sea food, cheeses and excellent fresh fruit and vegetables. The famous Canal du Midi which passes through the town of Beziers offers a wide range of activities including boat trips and magnificant walks.

Beaches: The quiet coastal port of Valras Plage offers several excellent restaurants and extensive golden beaches which shelve very gradually giving safe bathing for children and adults.
For the more adventurous, Serignan Plage offers long sandy beaches designated as clothing optional where one is free to wear as much (or as little) as desired. Bordering the beaches are sand dunes which offer privacy and shelter from sea breezes.

Roquebrun and river Orb
Mountains & Rivers:Towards the North in the valley of the River Orb, the beautiful hamlet of Roquebrun nestles in its own Mediterranean micro climate. White water canoeing, cycling, fishing and excellent mountain walks are to be found here, as well as excellent restaurants.

Wine & Food: This area still retains the character of provincial France unlike many of the more famous areas on the Mediterranean coast. Amongst the famous wines produced in this area are St Chinian, Faugere and Minervois which are available directly from local producers or supermarkets at extremely low prices.
Food of all kinds is the passion in this region. Seafood is a speciality with an incredible range of bars and restaurants nearby to suit all tastes and budgets. From little local bars serving a 'plat du jour' to Chateaux with internationally cuisine.

Meze

History & Culture: Carcassonne (approx an hours easy drive) is a large medieval walled city which is rich in local history including the Cathar religion. For a daytrip why not consider Nimes (with the roman amphitheatre), the Pont du Gard (an original viaduct that carried water), Millau (with a more modern viaduct that is dscribed as the 'skybridge') and Rennes le Chateaux recently made famous by the Da Vinci code. Weather: Over 300 days of sunshine per year and an economy based on winemaking make this region popular with people looking for good weather, outdoor living and fresh, unpolluted air. The climate is also dry and without excess humidity, perfect for anyone looking to spend time outdoors. During the hotter summer months, the beach has a breeze to counteract the heat of the midday sun. Guests dine outside in the evenings from April to the end of October.
